In the crush of product that arrives daily to form mountainous piles on a music critic's desk, it's too easy to forget that some of the most notable is made in our own backyard. Despite the fact that homegrown talent has slipped in recent years from the national radar screen, Boston is a music mecca - one that's subject to the same whims and cycles as the industry itself. But this year promises to be a good one for a new crop of emerging artists and a handful of local heroes - some of whom are returning after years out of the spotlight. Here's a sampling of artists with discs scheduledto drop in the next 12 months, offered with the usual disclaimer about the unpredictability of such endeavors. Even the best-laid record-release plans are subject to the mercurial nature of the music business.

LOVELESS
A convergence of local rock royalty - Dave Wanamaker and Pete Armata of Expanding Man, Tom Polce (Creme Brulee, Crown Victoria, Senor Happy), and former solo artist Jen Trynin - Loveless is halfway through recording its debut for Q Division. It's produced by studio chief Mike Denneen, Trynin's husband. Big pop hooks and muscular guitars abound. Look for the disc in stores this spring.
