If you needed to hear more guitars and killer pop hooks, Loveless' set at T.T. the Bear's Place delivered the goods. Many locals were wondering if this band could stay together, since its two singer/guitarists both tasted stardom in the past -- Dave Wanamaker with Expanding Man, Jen Trynin as a solo artist. But they show a strong chemistry onstage, where Wanamaker gets to be the charismatic frontman and Trynin the loose cannon, giving the songs a wilder touch with her guitar and harmonies. Loveless has finally wrapped up an album it started two years agol in the interim, Wanamaker moved to New York and Trynin had her first child. They played with their usual bone-crunching volume Saturday, but their pop smarts still came through: "She Gives Me Something Good" wasn't just their most obvious hit; it may well have been the catchiest song of the entire conference. - Brett Milano |
